What if the path towards more sustainable, ethical and innovative fashion hung by a thread? With its new fibre made from a blend of new-generation polyamide 6.6, Fulgar and the Rhodia Solvay group are planning to develop fabrics and materials that can decompose very quickly, especially when they are thrown away or abandoned in nature. An innovative biodegradable fabric

And for good reason: this new textile technology named Amni Soul Eco has a unique composition that allows bacteria to eat and digest it, thus accelerating the biodegradation process. In other words, even if it is discarded in nature or ends up in landfill, this fabric could decompose naturally without external human intervention.

While most textile materials last for decades before being eliminated from the planet’s surface, researchers estimate that this fabric would disintegrate within five years. Free from any toxic substances and Oeko-Tex-certified, the fibre will turn into biomass and biogas, i.e. new resources for the environment that can also be used in the production of green energy.

As well as being biodegradable, Amni Soul Eco boasts characteristics that allow it to rival its many textile competitors. This fibre provides fabrics of unequalled comfort and softness, while offering breathable properties. It’s easy-care and machine washable and can also be customised and dyed in line with customer wishes.

It gives possible applications in all clothing sectors, from lingerie to sports clothing, through the swimwear category, denim and all kinds of apparel. Brands will no longer have an excuse for not going biodegradable.
